Devil's 4-Way
It's been almost a month since I've gotten a game in, so I was happy to finally make it down to the FLGS for a nice Sunday afternoon of Warmachine. One of our locals has been wanting to put together a 2-vs-2 Fight Club league game, so that is what we did. We originally wanted to do another 100-point-per-player game like we did for Bobaferret's going away, but everyone had Father's Day dinner plans, so we settled on a quicker 50-pointer.
The Menites came screaming across the field and the battle was joined. By turn two, Rowdy got charged by the Avatar, which should have scrapped him but suffered some amazingly bad rolls. Plenty of Stormguard were lit on fire (where is that Piper!?!) but all in all, I weathered it pretty well. In return, Nemo buffed jacks with Fail Safe and Lightning Shroud and then popped his feat to load them up with focus. Rowdy managed to take out the Avatar with the help of some charging Stormguard, and I did healthy damage to the Castigator and the Reckoner. A well placed earthquake from my partner knocked down a horde of approaching light jacks, and I proceeded to disrupt most everything else. At the end of our turn, my partner popped Stryker's feat, leaving about half of my army with boosted armor (including an armor 28 Fail-Safed Centurion!)
That extra armor saved my bacon on the next turn. Amon cast Synergy, popped his feat and went to town. Luckily, most of his jacks in combat with my heavies were disrupted, so the didn't benefit from the focus-allocation portion of the feat. He still had plenty of light 'jacks left, and they went to town murdering Stormguard. Amon even moved up and got into the act, setting up what I assumed to be an impending assassination run on Nemo. In the end, he didn't end up killing as much as he needed to (pretty common on Stryker's feat turn), but he also didn't leave me many good lanes to get to him and he managed to tie up my ranged-attack options. On my turn, I bounced a couple of lightning bolts onto him for about 7 damage, and then in desperation my Defender took an unlikely shot against the DEF 18 warcaster - and hit! Lights out, Amon.
I quickly turned my attention to my left flank, where my partner was doing his best against a warbeast-heavy troll army. To be honest, I hadn't been paying much attention to that half of the table, but it looked like he had been holding his own. I spent a turn repositioning and then we mounted an all-out assault. A couple of turns of earthquakes and boosted defender shots lead to focus-loaded, knocked-prone Hoarluk. My Black 13th (who had graciously been sniped by Stryker), laid in four brutal damage shots to end the game for the glory of Cygnar!
Final thoughts: It was good to get out and get a game in - Just to play again, and to hang out with some people I really enjoy. I like the 2-vs-2 format, and the Fight Club rules (2/3 of your points in Warjacks) keep the game from bogging down with long infantry turns (We managed to play the whole thing to the end in about three hours.) I haven't played much with eNemo, but I really enjoyed him in the 'jack-heavy format. Strangewayes also really shined for me - sometimes I struggle to get my points out of him, but this time he was a veritable toolbox, giving out focus, casting Evasive Action to reposition key 'jacks and keeping things patched up. This was also my first outing with the Lightning Tower, and while I see it's potential, I used it pretty poorly this time around, and I look forward trying it again. Oh, and next time I'm going to actually deploy everything I pay for!
A great game and a hard-fought battle! It's was good to be back playing, and it is good to be back blogging (even if this is kind of sloppy!). Here's hoping your league, your painting and your summer are all going well!
Four armies meet on the Blasted Heath
Knowing it would be Fight Club, I settled on the Epic Old Man, hoping to get the most of of his feat turn. I supported him with a good number of heavy jacks, and came up with a list that looked something like this:
Battlegroup
| Support Forces
|
We rolled randomly for teams, and go figure, the two Cygnar guys ended up together. This was almost unfair as my teammate was playing regular Stryker, which meant all of my models could benefit from Invincibility on his feat turn. I ended up facing off against a Amon-led Menoth list, while my partner faced a Hoarluk-led Troll army. Of course, I'm super rusty, so I forgot to even deploy the Piper, and it wasn't until the first Stormguard died and I went to make my tough check that I realized he wasn't there!
General Nemo leads his 'jacks into battle!

Smile like a donut, Amon!
